George Friedrich Handel's Messiah Is Performed In Dublin Every Year On The 13th. April - Fishamble Street, Old City, Temple Bar

Choruses of ‘Hallelujah!’ rang out throughout Dublin this Saturday as hundreds of people gather to celebrate Handel and his connections to Dublin with the annual outdoor performance of ‘Messiah on the Street’ performed by Our Lady’s Choral Society.

Messiah remains Handel's best-known work, with performances particularly popular during the Christmas season and it may surprise many to learn that Messiah was not originally intended as a piece of Christmas music.

Messiah received its world premiere on this day in 1742, during the Christian season of Lent, and in the decidedly secular context of a concert hall in Dublin, Ireland.
