Old British Letterbox - "This Postbox Is No Longer In Use"

I photographed this in Howth. A friend mentioned to me that he had noticed than many letterboxes around Dublin are no longer in use but this is the first one that I have seen.

Following Irish independence in 1922, existing British post boxes were retained, and simply painted green. Many of these are extant around the country, retaining the monogram of the monarch who reigned at the time of the box's installation.
